Andrew Warhola (Aug.6, 1928 – Feb.22, 1987), known as Andy Warhol, was an famous American painter, printmaker, and filmmaker who was a leading role in the visual art movement known as pop art in America.  In 1945 he entered the Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon University) where he majored in pictorial design. After graduation, Andy moved to New York where he found steady work as a commercial artist. After a successful career as a commercial illustrator, Andy became famous home and abroad for his work as a painting artist, avant-garde filmmaker, record producer, author, and member of highly diverse social circles that included Bohemian street people, distinguished intellectuals, Hollywood celebrities and wealthy patrons.

Andy Warhol has been the subject of numerous retrospective exhibitions, books, and feature and documentary films. He coined the widely used expression "15 minutes of fame."
