Xiamen is one of the most beautiful and livable coastal cities in China, and it’s voted as China's cleanest city. It has a fairly gentle and comfortable climate, with only slight temperature and climatic changes month by month. The summer weather in Xiamen is rarely too hot, while the winters are mild and quite comfortable at most of the time.This kind of climate is as warm as spring all year round, that has become another feature to attract tourists to visit this coastal city. Xiamen is located at the west bank of Taiwan strait, which is the powerful geographical advantage for the sustained development of  Xiamen's tourism industry.After the founding of New China, Xiamen has been starting to develop its tourism industry soon. In Nov. 1949, Xiamen China Tourism Service was founded, which was the first tourism agency founded in New China actually.

Thanks to the reforming and opening up policy in 1978, Xiamen's tourism has been booming as a prosperous industry now. At present, Xiamen has been listed as one of the best tourism cities of China. And, the toursim industry has become one of the key economic sectors and a new economic growth aspect of the Xiamen.

With the continuous hard work of the local government these years, Xiamen has made big progress in expanding the tourism markets both at home and abroad. In order to keep the tourism industry developing in a continuous smooth way, Xiamen has formulated the related local regulations and rules, which standardize the business activities of the tourism development. Those regulations and rules together form the basic legislation for tourism industry of Xiamen, which would contribute to speeding up the development of Xiamen tourism and make it run smoothly and sustainablely in future. As for the development of tourism resources, Xiamen has established more than ten tourism attraction locations including Gulangyu Island, Ten Thousand Stone Hill, South Putuo Temple, Jimei Village of Scholars, etc. As for the tourist hotels and travel agencies, Xiamen City has more than 100 hotels, which are capable and good enough to receive foreign visitors. Amid the hotels, 50 are four-star rated hotels with more than 12000 guestrooms; Additionally, there are 15 international tourism agencies and 45 domestic travel agencies in Xiamen now.

Facing the new challenges of new century, Xiamen has made it’s big dream and plan to develop to be the main tourism city in Southeast China. Without any doubts, the tourism industry of Xiamen has a very bright future.
