A recent study on Xiamen hotel industry:

The data from the tourism sector of government last year showed that the renting rate of hotels in Xiamen during the spring festival and Golden Week was higher than that of former years, which was in an increasing tendency. It was unbelievable that this kind of situation appeared in Xiamen after the serious international financial turmoil and the America subprime mortgage crisis. But, that is true. As a coastal open city, Xiamen is charming and attractive because of the beautiful scenery and neat environment.
 
There was no foundation for Xiamen hotel industry ten years ago. At that time Xiamen only had one five-star hotel i.e. Mandarin Hotel. The four-star hotels were only Millennium Harbourview Hotel and Macro Polo Hotel. The quantity of three-star hotel was also can be counted on the fingers of one hand then. But, the situation is much different now. The density of hotels in Xiamen has been higher and higher. Nearly all of the big foreign hotel brands have their eyes on this small coastal city, such as Sheraton, Sofitel, Wyndham, Days Inn, Le Meridien, Ramada, Best Western, Howard Johnson etc. In the following two years, there will be more than 20 five-star hotels inside island, and 10 high-star hotels outside.

Xiamen has become the main gateway to link mainland and Taiwan in recent years. The determination of China government to further build the economic zone on the west side of the Taiwan straits also makes Xiamen become much more important. The high-speed development of economy in Xiamen in near future will lead the local hotel industry to develop more and more quickly. We can say that there will be full of opportunities in Xiamen hotel industry in the following several years. But, of course, the competition of this industry will be keener and keener in Xiamen as well.  
 
Considering the characteristics of Xiamen hotel marketplace and hotel business forms, we think, the fashionable luxurious hotels and medium-size foreign brand hotels will be the mainstream. Anyway, who can follow the market development and meet the market demand well, whoever would win the market!
