Saint Eldrad leaving for Santiago De Compostela- C.12th Centry Italian Painting:

The Benedictine Abbey of Novalesa was found in 726, built high above the Susa Vally. It's situated on a section of the Via Francigena, one of several routes taken by medieval pilgrims traveling betwee Rome and the three great centers of Christian pilgrimage Jerusalem, Canterbury , and Santiago de Compaostela. This painting is a wonderful scene from a beautiful set of frescoes that are a stunning artistic achievement.
The figures in the paintings are framed by an arch with traditional Roman styled pillars crowned by a church where the words Eclasci Petri denote that it is Saint Peter’s in the city of Rome. The borders are replete with flowers and fruit that denote the unique Romanesque style that adds a sense of profundity to the frescos. The scenery in the painting emanates from a lovely set of frescoes that are an astonishing accomplishment in artistry. (Saint Eldrad leaving for Santiago De Compostela)
